EXTENDED TOUR DESCRIPTION

Visit Constantinople, discovering history & archaeology at the city’s historic heart (with express entry!)

Your day of discovery starts at the Blue Mosque, where our early meeting time helps us beat the larger crowds. As you wait for the doors to open your guide will give you some background on this incredible building, teaching you about the many religious and social groups that make up this unique city of two continents.

Don your scarves and slip off your shoes to explore the beautiful interior of the Mosque before crossing the old Hippodrome (this space was once used for chariot races!) to Istanbul’s other major site – Hagia Sophia. Traveling with a licensed local guide here and having pre-reserved tickets, means you’ll skip long lines to gain swift entrance. Inside you’ll find a building representative of Istanbul, mingling different building styles and religious icons; lucky you have an expert guide on hand to explain it all.

The last stop of the morning is the Basilica Cistern. Built in the 6th century this huge ancient cistern is most notable for its carved Medusa columns, but it’s the size and atmosphere, along with its eerie lighting, that will take your breath away. Again, traveling with a guide means you won’t wait in long ticket lines, jumping to the top for the tour guide ticket window.

Enjoy a traditional Turkish lunch before your no-pressure guided tour of the Grand Bazaar and Spice Bazaar.

One of the major perks of taking our Istanbul In A Day tour (besides from seeing all of Istanbul in a day, of course) is the inclusion of a full buffet lunch. At the heart of the city’s major tourist attractions, it can be hard to find good food. We know a spot though, and it’s here we’ll go for a full buffet of Turkish kebab meats, rice and savory pastries – more than enough food to load you up for what’s to come – the bazaars!

It’s a short walk to the one of the world’s largest covered markets, the aptly named Grand Bazaar. Home to 60 streets and 5,000 shops it’s a sensory overload – but with our guides to show you around, it won’t be long before you’re familiar with the different sections and wares on offer. From antique lamps to faux designer handbags and incredible hand-crafted jewelry; the Grand Bazaar offers a fantastic glimpse into Turkey’s culture and long history as a center for trade and commerce. Touring with a local, you’ll avoid the hassle and pressure felt by many visitors and even pick up some tips on effective bartering – the Turkish way!

Back into Istanbul’s winding streets then and up a narrow flight of stairs for a really special treat. We’ll introduce you to our favorite secret spot in the city, a quiet rooftop with sensational views over the Bosphorus and all of Istanbul. Following our noses we’ll walk to the Spice Bazaar. Pass mounds of saffron, paprika, turmeric, Turkish delight and fragrant tea leaves as your guide explains each flavor and how its used by local chefs. It can be busy at the bazaar so we’ve pre-organised a visit to one of the stores, where your guide will have samples of spices and teas to share with you – without any hassle from vendors.

Take to the water on our small-group Bosphorus cruise, then navigate lively streets to Galata Tower.

A sure highlight of our day comes towards the end with an intimate one-hour Bosphorus cruise. At times two Walks of Italy tour groups may share the boat but that’s it – we guarantee a maximum of 30 people on your cruise, with your guide’s attention trained on just your group of 15 as you navigate the waters of Istanbul.

The last section of our Istanbul tour takes you through a more local part of town, through the lively fish market and beautiful winding streets, as you make your way towards the Galata Tower. Because there’s no way to skip the (often absurdly long) lines here, we won’t go inside, opting instead for the roof terrace of a nearby café where you’ll enjoy equally beautiful views back over the other side of the city.

Stay and have a coffee if you wish or break for dinner – your guide will be happy to give you recommendations on what to do and where to eat during the rest of your trip. One thing is for sure though; after this jam-packed day you’ll be familiar enough with Istanbul to trace your own path, and to understand the fascinating history and culture laid out at your feet.

Yasmine was great! She's very knowledgeable, and goes at the pace you prefer. She has a deep knowledge of the city's history and culture, but doesn't overwhelm you with information. She accepts questions and is flexible with information you want to know more of, or skip. We just had two people in our group that day, and she was open to spending as much or as little time in each landmark we visited. She is personable and friendly, but really knows her areas of expertise. I recommend her as the tour guide for anyone.
Excellent tour. Gokalp was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. He made it the perfect day.
Kursat was excellent and the tour is highly recommended.
Engin was a great guide! Very helpful and informative, I would never have seen as much of the city as I did if I hadn't signed up for this tour. I was overwhelmed by the city on my own so it was wonderful to have a guide to get through it with me :)
Guney was an excellent tour guide. He is knowledgeable, funny and kind. He made us feel welcome in his hometown, Istanbul. I would highly recommend him to any of our friends visiting Turkey.
The tour was great, it hit all the main tourist attractions with a knowledgeable guide. She was fun and definitely knows her stuff. The tour was perfect for the short amount of time I was in Istanbul. Lunch was very good and was just the right amount of food. I would take a tour with your company again if/when I'm back in Turkey.
Very good and friendly guide
Everything was wonderful. If I go back with anyone new I'd be sure to take them on the tour or recommend it to them.
The same applies here. Will surely use it next time!
This tour was such a good introduction to Istanbul. As a solo female traveler, it made me feel more comfortable travelling around the city and getting my bearings. Our guide had great knowledge and was very friendly. Definitely recommended.
The tour and the guide were awesome. We enjoyed great time. The guide give us a lot of informations. Congratulations for the quality of this tour !
I signed up for this tour as a way to see the city and it was fantastic! My group was a small group of ladies and our tour guide Jasmine. My tour guide was so nice, friendly and flexible. Because we were a small group we were able to move at our own pace and really enjoy the city. Jasmine was the highlight of the day she was an amazing guide and I would recommend her to anyone stopping in Istanbul.. I had a wonderful day!!!
Yasmine was like a friend by the end of the day. Even though we did so much, she made it feel relaxing and fun. I don't know how I would have seen so much of the city otherwise, and skip the parts people dislike like haggling in the Grand Bazaar. I appreciated that she brought us to some local areas as well. Amazing woman!!
Dilan is a very pleasant, joyful guide. She was very informative and ensures that all in the group are following closely and would repeat the information if needed. She also gave some very useful tips and suggestions. Although the event ended way past the time allocated, Dilan made sure that everyone knows how to go off from that last destination to whichever destination they were going next. Although the tour is pricey especially with 3 young kids, Dilan has made it all worthwhile.
Excellent, Exactly what I was expecting!
Guney was a fantastic guide and we all loved our day walking around Istanbul. He was very knowledgeable and entertaining. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone.
I was very satisfied with the tour. There was no element that wasn't satisfactory. I found Luna to be extremely informative. I probably enjoyed the rooftop of the bazaar the most simply because it's so beautiful up there.
The Bosphorus part of the tour was probably my favorite part. Grand Bazaar and Spice Bazaar are so crowded, which can't be helped. But it does make it unpleasant. Touring the Bosphorus and looking at the beautiful architecture, having Luna describe the buildings was very relaxing. I would recommend Walks of Turkey to visitors in the future.
Great tour would recommend to any visitors to Istanbul
Fantastic tour. The girl who led our tour was wonderful. She told us so much about the local area and showed us some very interesting places, even taking us up onto some of Istanbuls rooftops for some amazing views of the city that we wouldn't otherwise have seen. The Bosphorus Cruise was excellent too, with beautiful views of both East and West Istanbul.
Fabulous tour and awesome guide. Highly recommend to anyone looking to learn about Istanbul and see this beautiful place.
Guney was awesome!
review for full day tour: an amazing day! and my guide was the reason the day was so memorable. Doguc had an amazing energy from 8:30 am until 5pm when we finished! She knew everything about the history of each place we visited but more important she was able and willing to share information on the lifestyle in Istanbul, religious practices, social practices and restrictions which made the day far more interesting...............As a solo traveler the small group size allowed each attendee to ask questions.

Important information

Before you travel, please read our important notes about possible disruptions & site entrance requirements

Please remember that the Blue Mosque is a holy place, and attire must be appropriate for the visit. Both men and women are asked to take off their shoes when entering (you will put them in a plastic bag, provided by the Mosque, and bring them with you). Both are also asked to have their knees and shoulders covered. Women are asked to wear a head covering when entering. Please bring a scarf with you. Walks of Turkey cannot be held responsible for denied entry due to improper dress.

Unfortunately Istanbul is a hilly and crowded city, please wear comfortable shoes and keep your belongings in a safe zipped pocket.

Guests should be advised that the tour includes walking down and up steep hills and that often the ground is uneven. One of the rooftop views also requires climbing uneven and high steps. For this reason we cannot accommodate guests with mobility impairments or strollers on our group tour. Please contact us at [email protected] and we will work with you to find a suitable alternative.

This tour is a “carpet & shopping free” tour. Your guide will in fact remain with you throughout the tour instead of letting you explore the Bazaars on your own.

Note: We advise our clients that the Blue Mosque is subject to unforeseen closures during special celebrations/festivities. These closures are generally only announced a few days prior. If this occurs during your visit, we will spend more time at other sites. Your guide will still give you full information on the Mosque should you wish to visit this on your own at a later occasion. We are unable to provide refunds or discounts.

IMPORTANT: As lunch is included on this tour, please notify us before booking if you have any food allergies, dietary restrictions, or other special requirements.

We choose the first day in Istanbul to join the tour and that was the best decision to make i should say. The tour guide was professional, patient, accommodating and clear in describing places/history. A wonderful guided walk of the city, thank you.

my guide, Sibel was FANTASTIC!! Only complaint i would have is that i was under the impression that we would have time for shopping at the bazaar and we did not have any. i was sad about this. i also felt as though the spice market stop was long and it was slightly obvious that there was some type of arrangement made with the stall at the spice market as they gave us a lot of samples and spent a lot of time with us. we felt like we had to buy something. it was a bit awkward, but, it was still great to try and smell all of the spices. loved the boat and that we had the entire boat basically. also loved the rooftop view. thank you!

I really enjoyed the tour. The only issue was that the headsets stopped working early on. The guide organised to get it fixed but then they broke again. We were only a small group so it wasn't't a big issue.
Very enjoyable day and experience. We visited many sights and our guide was fluent in English and very knowledgeable.
